Ally McCoist has veered dangerously off message by admitting that Alfredo Morelos has a major disciplinary problem.

Five red cards before the end of March makes that fairly plain but it has been down played by a number of trusted favourites brought out to talk up the value of the Colombian striker.

Every transfer window since Morelos joined from HJK Helsinki has been marked by self generated interest in the striker with the fake interest from China particularly embarrassing.

Despite scoring just one more SPFL goal than Sam Cosgrove, and still waiting on his first goal against Celtic some at Ibrox, including Managing Director Stewart Robertson, have been trying to compare Morelos with Moussa Dembele.

Any offer over £6m would be snatched at by the cash strapped Ibrox side but almost everyone connected with the club has been hyping the price up much higher.

Clearly he has let himself down and the team down too with his disciplinary record,” McCoist told The Sun. “Getting sent off five times in one season just isn’t good enough.

“This could be the player of the year we’re talking about, though, so it’s a dilemma. The number of goals he has scored this year has been great and some of his performances have been fantastic – but he clearly has a discipline problem. Steven (Gerrard) knows that.

“Watching his interview after the Celtic game, I could sympathise with him because I knew where he was.

“He has defended Morelos at times but felt he had overstepped the mark that day and I could not agree with him more. It’s now time for Alfredo Morelos to take responsibility for his own actions.”
