Derek McInnes has vowed to send his Aberdeen side out to get in Celtic’s face on Sunday.

After three wins this season against Steven Gerrard’s side and a recent 0-0 draw at Celtic Park the Dons have some decent results to call upon even though their league form has dipped badly.

A fifth successive second place in the SPFL looks unlikely but McInnes would happily trade that for a trophy.

Celtic have beaten Aberdeen three times in Hampden finals over the last two and a half years but the Dons boss believes that his side has the game plan to end Celtic’s run of domestic successes.

I always feel in these types of games that it’s important to let the opposition know you’re in their face,” McInnes told the Daily Record. “An Aberdeen team should always have that confidence to go and play.

“In the league cup semi against Rangers the supporters were outnumbered, but let us know we were there.

“I’m sure we’ll hear them again on Sunday and hopefully we hear them at the end of the game celebrating.”

Aberdeen will be without Graeme Shinnie who is suspended after picking up his second booking of the competition during the replay win at Ibrox.

During his time in charge of Aberdeen McInnes’ only trophy win came in 2014 when they won the League Cup by beating Inverness Caley Thistle on penalties after a 0-0 draw.
