At the start of the week it was treated as a joke but today it became reality. Celebrating is an offence in the eyes of the SFA.

During Sunday’s Glasgow derby Scott Brown was elbowed off the ball, punched and then had a player sprint halfway across the pitch to confront him. He smiled, laughed and celebrated with 59,000 supporters.

Chris Sutton initially laughed off suggestions that Brown could be charged by the SFA, today the governing body of the SFA produced the charges.

While ridiculous in nature the charges should be welcomed by Celtic as an opportunity to put the SFA under real scrutiny.

In December Alfredo Morelos was given free reign to attack Celtic players during the Ibrox derby fixture.

When the SFA failed to take any retrospective action Celtic requested publication of John Beaton’s match report, that request was ignored by the SFA without a word of complaint from Celtic.

It does seem that Beaton has been sidelined from matches involving the two Glasgow clubs but with so few referees trusted Celtic had Madden in charge for consecutive games.

The SFA have hit a new low, now it’s time for Celtic to push for meaningful action on the double standards, climate of secrecy and complete lack of accountability. A statement isn’t enough, clear action is long overdue.
