After sharing a video from the tiny Donegal village of Mullachdubh, Timmy Mallett can be added to the list of Celebratory Celtic fans.

Any kids or teenagers from the eighties will instantly recognise Mallet, he was part of TV-AM in 1983, branching off to host the Wide Awake Club long before kids had access to smart phones and social media.

Rod Stewart, Jim Kerr and Billy Connolly from that era were quick to identify with Celtic but Cheshire born Mallett seems to be a newer recruit to the ranks of supporters.

Cycling in Donegal he passed a field with a flag, read the nearby plaque and as the song says ‘if you know the history’…

Celtic’s unique history travels far and wide, the famous shirts can be seen worldwide while Irish bars are very likely to be showing matches live at strange hours across the globe.

Mallett tells the story accurately, in 1995 when Celtic Park was rebuilt Fergus McCann insisted on recreating the tradition with a fresh sod of turf imported from Donegal as the centrepiece of the new look stadium.

It is believed that around 5,000 Season Ticket holders live in Ireland, making the regular journey which usually involves coaches and a ferry before driving up the A77 to the east end of Glasgow.

Donegal will be well represented at tomorrow’s Glasgow Derby, from early evening supporters will be hitting the road to ensure that they are in Glasgow mid-morning for a match where a home win will go a long way towards delivering a third successive SPFL title.
