Don Robertson is one of the emerging stars on the SFA refereeing circuit with a place on the FIFA list to highlight his progress with a whistle.
Yesterday at Ibrox he was involved in two highly debatable penalty decisions and allowed Jermain Defoe to throw his hand into Joe Lewis’ face without issuing a card of any description.
Robertson’s performance followed a pattern at Ibrox this year, Andrew Dallas managed to award four penalties against St Mirren in one match while Kilmarnock wasted their time turning up for a Scottish Cup replay refereed by Alan Muir.
(1) You have to laugh at the standard of refereeing here. 2nd penalty to Rangers. Second clip coming up shows Defoe get away with worse earlier on pic.twitter.com/WG6AVAZuj7

With no accountability and a couple of weeks in the Championship the top punishment referees seem immune from assessment with tried and tested excuses dusted down whenever they come under question.
At every corner kick a penalty could be awarded, football is a contact game that requires match officials to have an understanding of the jostling that goes on.
Robertson doesn’t have that basic appreciation of the game but with his place on the FIFA list he’ll be making those type of mistakes for years to come in high profile matches.
