Whatever Scott McDonald knows for a fact it hasn’t come from Neil Lennon.

The Partick Thistle striker was on duty for the BBC at Easter Road yesterday and highly critical of how Celtic had played.

According to McDonald Celtic seemed to be playing a dynamic brand of free flowing football under Brendan Rodgers with that vision at odds with his last two away wins- against St Johnstone and Kilmarnock.

Lennon inherited a squad decimated by injuries, shocked by the sudden departure of their smooth talking former boss and staring at trips to Hearts and Hibs where they had already lost this season.

The caretaker boss has carried the Treble Treble baton carefully, one slip and it’s his fault with a number of media and ‘supporter’ critics ready to cross examine every dropped point along the route.

Lennon was Gordon Strachan’s first team coach when McDonald was a Celtic player but after one episode in 2016 when they could have been reunited at Hibs only for the deal to fall through at the last minute.

Negotiations seemed to become drawn out with the striker rediscovering his love for Motherwell after trying to move the goal posts during negotiations with the Edinburgh side.

The Daily Mail reported:

I was surprised at the suggestion that Scott turned down an offer from Hibernian,’ he said. ‘We were interested in taking the player to Easter Road.

We reached a point where terms had been agreed, but Scott and his representatives came back to renegotiate and we decided to withdraw the offer. The board and I will not be messed around with in negotiations, and we will now pursue other targets

McDonald will turn his attention to Partick Thistle this week with a vital clash with Ayr United his priority.
