Celtic’s reserve squad is having a massive end of season clear out.

With age groups regularly changing and the Reserve League cut down to just 17 fixtures the development plan of many players has stalled.

Up until last season players had to bridge the gap from u-17 to Development League, this term the gap has been from u-18 to Reserve League with many players struggling to get any worthwhile game time.

Among those who will be moving on are Regan Hendry, Wallace Duffy, Ciaran Diver, Grant Savoury, Kieran McGrath, Ross McLaughlin, Kristi Marku, PJ Crossan, Reece Willison and Thomas Caffrey.

Almost all of the remaining players have been involved with the first team squad either in training or playing in pre-season friendlies.

There has been talk of some sort of European Reserve League involving clubs from Switzerland, Belgium, Austria and Scandinavia but a sponsor or television deal would be required to help with the costs.

Celtic completed their Reserve League campaign on Monday with a 3-2 win over St Johnstone thanks to goals from Mikey Johnston, Ewan Henderson and Savoury.
