John Hartson is expecting an action packed close season at Celtic Park.

The Welshman is a close watcher of all things at his old club and doesn’t disguise his wish to see Neil Lennon appointed on a permanent basis.

Peter Lawwell has had two months to assess the management situation with some highly significant dates coming up for Brendan Rodgers’ replacement to get down to business.

As soon as the final whistle blows in the Scottish Cup Final on May 25 speculation will intensify, on June 18 the draw will be made for the first two rounds of the Champions League with the first pre-season match in Austria eight days later followed by the first Champions League qualifier on July 9 or 10.

Time is at a premium for the next manager to get down to work with serious work required on the first team squad after three disappointing transfer windows.

Hartson told the Daily Record:

The Champions League qualifiers start in July, the Scottish Cup Final is May 25, the boys only get four weeks off, which is not much of a break and the international players will get far less – so there is a lot to do.

The team needs a bit of help. It needs some signings. Will it need big investment? I think so, yes. I’d like to see investment coming in but whoever is going to decide who leaves and who comes in, it needs to be done fairly soon because there is so much work to be done.

Since appointing Lennon as caretaker at the end of February Celtic haven’t made any comment on the position of manager.
