Celtic have been linked with a move for Dara O’Shea.

The West Brom defender has just completed a season on loan at League Two outfit Exeter City where he appears to have impressed Celtic’s scouting team.

The Sun reports:

Brendan Rodgers was looking at the youngster’s development and the Hoops remain keen on the centre-half.

West Brom have the option on his contract which runs out this month but they have yet to strike a deal.

Celtic have watched the youngster on several occasions now.

And they could get the Irish Under-19 starlet on a cut-price development fee due to his age.

O’Shea turned 20 in March with his form at Exeter earning him a call up into the Ireland u-21 squad.

Celtic are clearly on the look out for central defenders with Filip Benkovic and Dedryck Boyata both about to leave the club.

West Brom’s reluctance to extend O’Shea’s contract seems a strange one following his apparent success on loan at Exeter City.

Moving to Celtic would have obvious appeal for the Dubliner who would have a genuine chance of first team football with Kris Ajer demonstrating what can be achieved.

No deal is likely until his future is sorted at West Brom although they are leaving it late if they have an option to extend his deal by 12 months.

Similarly it’s unlikely that the defender will commit himself to moving to a new club until an announcement is made on who the next Celtic manager will be.
