Jon Flanagan will find out today if he is to be punished retrospectively for elbowing Scott Brown.

The former Liverpool defender lashed out at the Celtic skipper during Sunday’s derby match at Ibrox in full view of referee Kevin Clancy.

Incredibly Flanagan was only shown a yellow card but earlier this year Darnell Johnson of Hibs had a yellow card upgraded to red following a lunge at Emilio Izaguirre.

The Sun reports:

RANGERS star Jon Flanagan is facing a possible Old Firm charge.

SunSport understands SFA compliance officer Clare Whyte has spent the last 24 hours considering his apparent elbow on Celtic skipper Scott Brown – captured by TV cameras – in the second half of Gers’ 2-0 win.

Ref Kevin Clancy chose to book the full-back, but Hoops interim boss Neil Lennon slammed Clancy for not giving a straight red card.

It’s believed Whyte is likely to decide today what action, if any, she will take, while also considering several other incidents from Sunday’s clash.

Clancy has previous for missing incidents in Celtic matches, in November he spoke to Dolly Menga and Ryan Christie with the SFA hitting the Livingston striker with a two match retrospective ban.

While Flanagan waits to see if he will miss Sunday’s match at Kilmarnock Clancy will finish the season at Hampden as an additional assistant to Willie Collum at the Scottish Cup Final.

As well as Johnson and Menga, Steve MacLean, Scott McKenna and Ryan Kent have all been given retrospective suspensions for red card incidents missed by referees in matches against Celtic.
