Steven Gerrard refused to comment on Jon Flanagan’s attack that sent Scott Brown to the deck during the second half of the Glasgow derby.

As his side prepared to defend a corner, right in the centre of the penalty box the former Liverpool defender took a look at the Celtic skipper and swung an elbow towards his head.

It was right in the eye-line of referee Kevin Clancy who incredibly only produced a yellow card.

During his post match interview with Sky Sports Gerrard decided to highlight how his players had retained their discipline, that prompted a question about Flanagan and suddenly Gerrard wanted to change the subject.

The Sun reports:

Asked whether Jon Flanagan could have seen red for catching Hoops skipper Scott Brown with a flailing arm, Gerrard said: “I’m not interested, all I’m interested in is these supporters can enjoy their beer tonight.”

Celtic fans will now wait to see if the SFA Compliance Officer decides to take retrospective action against Flanagan, following the March derby clash Ryan Kent received a two match retrospective suspension.

Earlier this season, in another match refereed by Clancy, Dolly Menga of Livingston received a two match suspension for head-butting Ryan Christie. At the incident Clancy called both players over but didn’t even produce a yellow card.
