Graeme Souness believes that Neil Lennon should get Celtic job on a permanent basis.

The obsessed Sky Sports pundit spoke out after it was confirmed that Steven Gerrard would finish the season without adding any silverware to the Blue Room.

A year ago the Liverpool legend was tipped for glory as he stepped out of the television studio into management with the backing of Dave King’s millions.

With three months left in the season Lennon was thrown in at the deep end as Brendan Rodgers walked away with 11 first team players unavailable through injury.

The former Hibs boss stepped in at minimal notice, steered Celtic through cup ties against his old club and Aberdeen then got his hands on the SPFL trophy at the weekend.

I worked with Neil Lennon for two years in television and he’s as good as anyone I’ve worked with.

We’re very similar in our thinking. I think he gets his from Martin O’Neill who got his from Brian Clough.

Neil Lennon knows his stuff. In fact, I hope they don’t employ him as a Rangers supporter but I want him to keep the job as he’s a good guy – and I mean that.

People might think it’s strange but we bonded very quickly when we worked together and I like him very much as an individual. They’d be crazy to get rid of him.

If Neil wins the treble how much better can it get? He has fulfilled what he could do.

On Sunday Lennon takes the champions to Ibrox looking to continue the club’s unbeaten domestic record in 2019.

With three matches left in the season there has been no sign from Celtic over who will take charge of the club on a permanent basis.
