Tony Ralston is in line for a shock return to the Celtic first team after almost four months out of the side.

The 20-year-old was injured in the Scottish Cup win over Airdrie in the first match after the winter break and hasn’t featured since.

Mikael Lustig’s injury at Aberdeen has still to be assessed but it’s unlikely that Neil Lennon will turn to Jeremy Toljan or Cristian Gamboa who are both out of contract at the end of this season.

Ralston has played a couple of Reserve League matches recently but was left out of Tommy McIntyre’s side for today’s 3-2 win over St Johnstone.

At the start of last season Ralston looked set for an extended run in the side, famously clashing with Neymar in the Champions League, but failed to regain his place after returning from injury and spent the final months of the season on loan at Dundee United.

Before Christmas Ralston was called into the side that beat Motherwell and Dundee at home but was left on the bench for the festive clashes at Pittodrie and Ibrox.

An injury to Lustig at half-time saw him thrown into the action at Ibrox with history set to repeat itself with the incentive of a Scottish Cup Final place against Hearts on the schedule.
