Former Celtic duo Simon Ferry and Paul Slane were among the prizes last night as their Open Goal podcast picked up the Judges Award for Best Podcast at the 2019 Football Blogging Awards at the Etihad Stadium.
Ferry started the podcast off with some revealing interviews with former team-mates such as Charlie Mulgrew, Aiden McGeady and Darren O’Dea that quickly earned the podcast a dedicated following.
The success of the podcast has allowed Ferry to grow his contact book with visits down south to meet up with Andy Robertson and a classical podcast with Josh Windass.
Slane got involved with former Scotland striker Kevin Kyle also joining the motley crew with sponsors such as William Hill and Laurie Ross insurance both getting involved involved.
From a generation before Ferry was lighting up youth football alongside Charlie Grant at Celtic old timers Frank McAvennie and Derek Ferguson are also regular guests.
There were over 2000 nominations for last night’s awards with Ian Wright and Peter Crouch picking up prizes with the Deluded Brendan twitter account picking up the Judges’ Award for Best Social Account.
