Olivier Ntcham’s season will be extended until at least Thursday with France through to the semi-finals of the u-21 European Championships.

A 0-0 draw tonight with Romania saw the French progress to Thursday’s semi-finals as the best placed runners-up, finishing behind the impressive Romanian’s on goal difference.

Ntcham played the full 90 minutes in central midfield with France knowing that a defeat would see them crash out with hosts Italy taking the best runners-up spot from them. Equally as important as reaching the semi-final is the place in next summer’s Olympic Games that goes to Europe’s top four u-21 teams.

France had earlier beaten England and Croatia, tonight the Three Lions drew 3-3 with Croatia to finish the tournament with one point from three matches.

If France win their semi-final they will play in Sunday’s final which will complete the 12 month season for the midfielder who played for Celtic away to Alashkert on July 10.

Although he is the subject of transfer speculation Ntcham will get a fortnight off before joining up again with Celtic which will rule him out of both legs of the Champions League qualifier against FK Sarajevo.
