Agent O’Donnell can’t find an EPL club for Turnbull

|

Sheffield Wednesday have entered the race to sign David Turnbull with Liam O’Donnell’s contacts unable to unearth any Premier League interest in the midfielder.

It has been a dramatic couple of days for the 19-year-old since Motherwell opted to go public with the news that they had accepted an offer from Celtic.

Within 48 hours of that news breaking Celtic took to Twitter to explain that they wouldn’t meet the personal terms demanded forcing O’Donnell, the lead figure in the Prolegal Group to look elsewhere.

Despite having Andy Robertson at Liverpool and Stuart Armstrong with Southampton he has been unable to uncover a Premier League club willing to meet the asking figure of around £3m.

The Sun reports:

But after failing to agree personal terms with the talented teenager, the entire deal is on the brink of collapse.

That has put a host of English clubs including Bristol City and Southampton back on red alert.

Barnsley have already failed with a bid and last night it emerged Championship rivals Wednesday are now ready to swoop.

It’s understood the Owls had Turnbull watched several times last season, but feared their chance to sign him this summer had come and gone.

And while the door on a move to Celtic has not been completely closed, it’s clear that there will need to be a significant shift from the Parkhead club to get the deal over the line.

How ready Turnbull is for the grind of a 46 match season to reach the Play-Offs after one season of top team football remains to be seen.

With Celtic returning for pre-season training on Monday Neil Lennon is likely to be looking at other targets with the Turnbull deal less likely to be completed.
