Mikael Lustig is poised to sign for KAA Gent.

There has been speculation about a return to Sweden or new deal with Celtic but it has now emerged that Belgium is his likely next stop.

Swedish publisher Expressen reports:

AIK and Malmö FF seem to be able to forget Mikael Lustig. According to SportExpressen’s tasks, the national team’s right-hand back lands in Belgium today to undergo the medical examination at KAA Gent. If everything goes as planned, he is expected to sign up for the Belgian club shortly.

Lustig’s departure from Celtic seems to have developed into a long drawn out saga with Neil Lennon on record that he wanted the defender to stay in Glasgow.

Celtic opted not to take up a clause to extend his contract but it seems that there were talks about a new deal, clearly on reduced terms.

Despite not being at his best he was a popular member of the Treble Treble winners with no doubt about his commitment to the club that he joined in 2012 on a free from Rosenborg.

With Cristian Gamboa and Jeremy Toljan also moving on in the summer Tony Ralston is the only right back on Celtic’s books although Stephen Welsh has also played in that position.
