Celtic make significant step towards transfer deal

|

Celtic have taken a step closer to completing their first transfer of the summer with the Evening Times reporting David Turnbull to have gone through a medical.

On Wednesday Motherwell took the unusual step of announcing that they had accepted an offer from Celtic for the midfielder that has come through the Academy ranks at Fir Park.

Celtic have yet to comment on the deal which is believed to involve an initial fee of £2.8m with various add ons.

The Times reports:

MOTHERWELL midfielder David Turnbull has cut short his holiday in order to complete a medical for Celtic.

The 19-year-old was on holiday with some of his Motherwell team-mates but flew to Glasgow to undergo a medical with the Scottish champions.

Herald and Times Sport understands that the medical has now been completed and the transfer could be finalised imminently, provided there were no issues with the midfielder’s fitness.

If the medical is successful the transfer should be completed in time for Turnbull to meet his new team-mates on Monday for the start of pre-season training.

On Tuesday Celtic will discover the name of their opponents in the first qualifying round of the Champions League with Lennon looking to bring in players ready to get involved in that campaign.

Turnbull made his first team breakthrough last season with his transfer fee set to be the highest that Motherwell have received since collecting £1.75m for Phil O’Donnell in 1994.
