After a troubled first season at Ibrox which have raised questions about his future Eros Grezda has pulled out of the Albanian international squad.

The flying winger arrived at Ibrox on the final day of the summer transfer window being described as the greatest ever Albanian player.

A £2.5m fee was paid to Osijek with Steven Gerrard showing a strange fascination for players from Croatia where much of his transfer war-chest was spent.

Borna Barisic and Nikola Katic contributed little to last season’s failed bid for honours with the best part of £5m committed to Croatian clubs with Grezda handed a four year contract.

Since arriving at Ibrox Grezda has started seven first team matches despite the excitement of Gerrard at completing the signing.

He told the club website:

He is an excellent player and the fans will love him because he can contribute in the final third. He’s really quick, very direct and he comes in with international experience.

According to Borna and Nikola Katic he was by a mile Osijek’s best player last season. He is a very dangerous player and while you never want to see anyone injured, we are thankful he wasn’t available to play against us. All going well, hopefully he’ll be a big player for us moving forward.

Grezda appears to be joining Kyle Lafferty, Graham Dorrans and Barisic in the outcasts for next season’s title challenge.
