Neil Lennon has confirmed his interest in Paddy McNair.
Middlesbrough paid Sunderland £5m for the Northern Irish internationalist a year ago but despite handing out a contract that runs until 2022 it seems that they are prepared to move McNair on.
New ‘Boro boss Jonathan Woodgate seems to be involved in a down-scaling job with the 24-year-old likely to be on the move again during the transfer window.
The Sun reports:
McNair, 24, can play in defence or midfield and is expected to leave Boro this summer. But Sheffield United and several Championship clubs are also chasing the ex-Man United man. Asked about McNair, the Hoops boss said: “There’s an interest there, yeah.”
Lennon had hoped to have a couple of players join his squad in Austria with Christopher Jullien expected to complete his move from Toulouse this weekend.
Towards the end of last season Lennon stated that signing a striker was a transfer priority but it seems that Leigh Griffiths and Vakoun Issouf Bayo have made a favourable impression in pre-season training.
Tomorrow Celtic play their second pre-season match with FK Weiner providing the opposition with some of Lennon’s international players likely to be involved.
