On Friday morning it seemed that the David Turnbull signing saga was almost over.

Neil Lennon openly spoke to Sky Sports News about the midfielder while at lunchtime a picture emerged of the two men sitting in the Celtic boardroom in what appeared to be an interview for the in-house TV station.

Conformation of the transfer was expected at some point on Friday afternoon. As Celtic prepare for training this morning in Austria there is still no sign of the £3m rated midfielder with his absence causing concern among supporters.

Turnbull was pictured yesterday morning at Glasgow Airport with Celtic physio Tim Williamson with the newspapers still in the dark about what is holding up the transfer.

The Daily Record reports:

Turnbull was on Monday night still going through the stringent medical process after heading back down south for a second scan.

But club chiefs are confident the process will be a formality and have are hoping to finally seal the deal and fly the £3.25m midfielder out to join up with the rest of the group in the next few days.

Over at The Sun they report:

Turnbull, 19, agreed terms with Celtic on Friday morning — with Neil Lennon expecting him to sign within hours. But, four days on, the midfielder’s on-off move to the champions has yet to be concluded.

Turnbull had been forced to travel to Manchester for a medical on Friday afternoon — with results due after the weekend. But it’s understood he again travelled south yesterday with Celtic medics to complete final checks.

As of last night, the Hoops still weren’t in a position to officially seal the big-money transfer for the Fir Park kid. It’s a frustrating delay for Lennon and Turnbull, with the player keen to get his Hoops career started.

The on-off-on nature of this transfer has left all parties anxious to see it successfully completed with Motherwell waiting to pick up a transfer fee that will transform the club.

After a tense start to the transfer window Celtic fans are fearing the worst at the time their side badly needs strengthened, especially in defence.
