Celtic have pulled out of the deal to sign David Turnbull, according to a report in The Scottish Sun.

This morning the same publisher claimed that the deal was expected to be completed today but at 6.30pm tonight they performed a u-turn.

The Sun reports:

DAVID TURNBULL won’t be joining Celtic after Hoops chiefs walked away from the deal.

Neil Lennon had hoped to make the Motherwell starlet his first summer signing after a £3million deal was agreed.

But Parkhead insiders have told SunSport that the deal is now DEAD and Celts will move on to other targets. The news will stun Motherwell, who expected to rake in a club record fee for the 19-year-old midfielder.

The deal has been off-on-off since Motherwell announced on Wednesday that they had accepted an offer from Celtic for the midfielder.

On Friday Celtic tweeted that they wouldn’t be improving on their magnificent offer with the spotlight put on the players agent, Liam O’Donnell.

Celtic aren’t short of options in midfield but clearly felt that Turnbull was someone that would add to the squad and develop his potential. Now after six days in the spotlight without a breakthrough the hoops have pulled out of a deal that would have given Motherwell their record transfer fee.

It seems that there is no English club prepared to meet Motherwell’s asking price which means that the player is likely to be back at Fir Park for pre-season training.
