According to a report in The Sun Nicky Hammond is about to be appointed as Celtic’s Director of Football.

The role will replace the Head of Recruitment remit that Lee Congerton occupied until he opted to join Leicester City.

The Director of Football will have a key role in transfer activity with Hammond occupying that role at West Brom until their relegation from the EPL in 2018.

According to The Sun:

CELTIC want to bring in Nicky Hammond as their new director of football.

The former West Brom and Reading transfer guru is lined up to join the Hoops and find their future signings.

Season 2017/18 turned out to be something of a disaster for West Brom with Tony Pullis replaced by Alan Pardew. Oli Burke and Daniel Sturridge (on loan) were among the players brought in.

Whoever is brought in to the role will need to hit the ground running with the first Champions League qualifier just three weeks away.

While losing out on David Turnbull didn’t cover the club in glory the main recruitment focus is in defence with Mikael Lustig poised to join a lengthy departure list that includes Filip Benkovic, Dedryck Boyata, Cristian Gamboa and Emilio Izaguirre.

John Park had been tipped for a return to Celtic but is expected to take up a similar role with Sunderland.
