South American report links Celtic to ‘The Machine’

|

Celtic have been linked with a move for Sergio Quitero.

The midfielder has impressed at the u-20 World Cup Finals in Poland where he has helped Ecuador to a quarter final place against the United States.

Quitero plays his club football for Imbabura with the World Cup Finals viewed as a showcase to earn players a lucrative move to Europe.

El Diario reports:

Sergio Quintero   Scotland’s Celtic is on the hunt for Ecuadorian midfielder Sergio Quintero.

‘The Machine’, as the player is known, was one of the figures of the match against Uruguay, the round of 16, and the author of one of the three goals scored by the Tricolor in the match.

Gaining a work permit would be an obvious difficulty to any transfer to Celtic but with the report surfacing in Ecuador there is likely to be some substance to the claim.

The player inflation in English football has spread to many European countries with Celtic having to cast their net further for upcoming talent.

In January Batyo and Maryan Shved were signed from Slovakia and the Ukraine with Quintero fitting a similar profile to those players.

Celtic have never signed a player from Ecuador but the success of Antonio Valencia at Manchester United highlights what their players are capable of.
