Tom English has been the butt of Celtic fans humour on the back of David Turnbull’s decision to join Celtic.
In midweek the chief sports writer for BBC Scotland took time off from his duties at the Woman’s World Cup in France to enjoy some gloating when the Motherwell midfielder seemed destined for Norwich City.
It seemed to be only a matter of time before the signing was completed but Wednesday came and went then late on Thursday the story took another dramatic twist.
Celtic fans couldn’t wait to share their joy with the state broadcaster with the overnight news signalling that the club was about to make their first signing of the summer.
In mid morning Neil Lennon appeared on Sky Sports, happy to discuss the signing of Turnbull among his hopes and plans for the season ahead.
A picture of Turnbull in the Celtic boardroom appeared just before lunch with Lennon happy to explain the circumstances of his new arrival when he hosted his first all in broadcast media conference of the season.
Of course it’s never over till the fat lady sings but it’s always wise to keep gloating comments on hold until Celtic’s transfer ‘failures’ are completed.
Stick to the rugby pal

Dramatic end to the David Turnbull saga. Motherwell have done really well, the player has done really well. Celtic? They’ve now bid for and failed to get McGinn, McKenna and Turnbull. Not a good look

Nowhere near that level of money would have been required. Anyway, Celtic didn’t have a great appeal to him in the end.

Good move either way. Just reflecting on the on-off nature of it
