Kieran Tierney joined the thousands of Celtic fans paying tribute to the departing Mikael Lustig.

The two men were side by side through most of the Treble Treble triumphs but when the new season starts the popular Swede will be plying his trade in Belgium.

Tierney was a ball boy when Neil Lennon brought in the right-back from Sweden who was to collect 16 major honours over seven and a half years in Scottish football.

I had no idea how much this club and everything that comes with it would mean to me when I signed 7.5 years ago. It’s time for me and my family to move on, start a new chapter in life. To make a post on Instagram isn’t enough to express my feelings and thoughts about the situation. I wish I would’ve had the chance to get a proper good bye. I just want to say thank you to everyone I’ve had the honour to meet and work with at Celtic, all the players and staff. The memories will stay with me forever. Thank you to all of you that made Glasgow feel like home for me and my family for so many years. I will never forget your support. Hopefully I’ll see you all soon. I’ll definitely be back for the 10 in a row party! ????????

As Tierney came into the side as a skinny youth Lustig was enjoying his peek years with the 2016/17 Invincible season the highlight for both men.

Although born hundreds of miles apart they shared the same drive and will to win which added to their natural ability made them one of Celtic’s best ever full-back pairings.

Tierney has put in plenty of appearances as a fan, next season as he chases a ninth title success there is likely to be a familiar looking Swede cheering him on from the stand when Gent commitments allow.
