The chances of Peter Ankersen joining Celtic have been greatly reduced with two publishers down playing interest in the FC Copenhagen right-back.

That position is a transfer priority for Neil Lennon after watching Cristian Gamboa, Jeremy Toljan and Mikael Lustig leave the club since the end of last season.

Tony Ralston and Grant Savoury played at right-back in the 6-1 win over Pinkafeld last night but are unlikely to be involved when the serious action in Europe gets underway.

Ankersen has a year left to run on his Copenhagen deal but it seems that Celtic haven’t been given much encouragement in discussions about the 28-year-old.

The Daily Record reports:

There are other options and the chase is still on for a right back, although Record Sport understands Celts have cooled on Copenhagen defender Peter Ankersen.

Over at the Daily Mail they say:

A proposed deal for Copenhagen right back Peter Ankersen has hit the buffers.

In other transfer news Lennon is hopeful that Christopher Jullien will be able to complete his £7m transfer from Toulouse with personal terms agreed with central defender.

Talks are on-going with Motherwell over the transfer of David Turnbull after concerns were raised over his medical.

On Saturday Celtic face SK Weiner in the second match of their Austrian and Swiss tour with Lennon likely to involve some of his internationalists after they joined up with the squad on Monday and underwent their first outdoor training session on Wednesday.
