Celtic hand lifeline to Danny Simpson

Danny Simpson is set to join Celtic on trial next week.

The defender left Leicester City at the end of his contract last month and could be the answer to Celtic’s problems at right-back. Simpson only made three EPL starts for Leicester last season but is scheduled to book into Lennoxtown next week.

The Sun reports:

NEIL LENNNON will hand right-back Danny Simpson the chance to earn a deal with Celtic. SunSport can reveal the ex-Leicester City star will join the Hoops next week for a training stint.

Kris Ajer played at right-back for Celtic in both legs of the Champions League first round victory over Sarajevo but is clearly more effective at centre-back.

Christopher Jullien sat on the bench through both legs but Lennon is hopeful that the former Toulouse defender will be ready to play against Nomme Kalju on Wednesday.

It’s unlikely that Simpson will be upto speed with Celtic’s fitness demands after so little football last season but he would offer experience in what has rapidly developed into a problem position.
