Celtic have been linked with a move for Hatem Abd Elhamed.

The 28-year-old has been with Hapoel Beer Sheva for two years after being transferred from Ashdod.

According to The Sun:

Reports in the country tonight claimed Celts are closing in on agreeing a fee for the 28-year-old. Abd Elhamed is a centre-half who can also play right-back. He was moved into defence after starting out as a winger.

The 6ft 1in ace won his first cap for Israel as a sub in last month’s Euro qualifier with Poland, where he replaced current Hoops star Nir Bitton. Abd Elhamed started out at Maccabi Tel Aviv and has also played at Ashdod, Dinamo Bucharest and Gent.

The defender is represented by Dudu Dahan who previously brought Beram Kayal and Nir Bitton to Celtic during Neil Lennon’s first stint as manager.

Celtic have until 11pm on Sunday to add two wild card signings to their squad for the Champions League qualifiers against FK Sarajevo.

It’s highly unlikely that a new signing would be pitched in to make his debut in Bosnia with new bhoys Christopher Jullien and Luca Connell left out of the friendly against St Gallen on Tuesday in order to get their fitness upto speed with their new team-mates.

Celtic do have a friendly at Arbroath on Sunday to give some fringe players game time with a home match against Rennes next Saturday between the two matches against the Bosnian champions.
