Christopher Jullien will miss the opening match of the SPFL against St Johnstone due to suspension.

The defender picked up eight yellow cards in 34 Ligue 1 appearances for Toulouse and arrives in Scotland with a domestic suspension passed on to the SFA.

Jullien can’t play the first game of the season neither can Jozo Simunovic through suspension,” Neil Lennon told the Daily Record looking at the week ahead. “We must take that into account.

Some new signings aren’t quite in the right condition for the start but that’s fine. We have ample cover. We’ll make changes on Tuesday night. I’d like to give some players a rest and Jullien will probably play.”

Simunovic has been given a two match ban after picking up a VAR red card from Celtic’s pre-season match with St Gallen.

Jullien and Simunovic are likely to start the away tie with Nomme Kalju on Tuesday with both players missing out on the opening domestic match four days later with Kris Ajer and Nir Bitton paired up to face St Johnstone.

Tommy Wright’s side head to Glasgow in terrible shape with their Betfred Cup section completed yesterday with a 2-1 defeat away to Forfar.

Further defeats to Ross County and Montrose left them in fourth place in the group with ex Celt Wallace Duffy, former Dundee keeper Elliot Parish and Estonian defender Madis Vihmann their only close season signings.

At exactly the same time as Celtic face Nomme in Israel Maccabi Tel Aviv will be trying to overturn a 1-0 deficit to Cluj with the victors at home to Neil Lennon’s side the following midweek.
