Fears that Leigh Griffiths had suffered an injury set-back on the eve of Celtic’s Champions League qualifier against Cluj have been allayed with the striker included in the squad that flew to Romania.

From the 60 plus images released of Celtic in training one showed Griffiths appearing to grimace which sent out a panic signal to some fans.

However late this afternoon the Daily Record reported:

But Griffiths allayed any potential injury concerns as he looked in the zone at Glasgow Airport after pictures emerged of him appearing to grimace during the Celtic Park session. But the Scotland international had his trusty travel pillow under his arm alongside his team-mates ahead of the big match against Dan Petrescu’s side.

Griffiths started both legs of Celtic’s second round tie against Nomme Kalju but had to settle for a substitute role on Saturday against St Johnstone although he did come off the bench to score the final goal of the 7-0 win.

Neil Lennon is likely to keep the former Hibs striker on the bench tomorrow night as he continues to push the striker back towards full fitness after seven months out of action. Mark Hill, who has just returned from a spell on loan with Charlotte Independence, is with the first team squad in Romania.

The winners of the third round tie will face Slavia Prague in the Play Off round for the Champions League with a place in the group stage at stake.
