Lille are set to renew their interest in Jozo Simunovic with a second bid expected for the Celtic defender, according to the Daily Record.

The French side had a £4m bid rejected by Celtic last month but are now cash rich with the sale of Nicholas Pepe to Arsenal raking in £72m.

Simunovic has started all four of Celtic’s Champions League qualifiers this season but will be under pressure once Christopher Jullien gets match fit to play alongside Kris Ajer.

The Record reports:

Sources close to the situation have suggested the Parkhead side turfed out an opening proposal of just over £4m in recent weeks but Lille are set to rekindle their interest and go in higher.

Simunovic will miss Celtic’s first two domestic matches after picking up a VAR red card picked up in the pre-season friendly against St Gallen.

Celtic paid around £4m to Croatia Zagreb in August 2015 with the hope that Simunovic would step into the place vacated by Virgil van Dijk’s move to Southampton.

Injuries have dogged the progress of the defender who was given permission to visit Torino in August 2016 but a move fell through over concerns about his fitness with Celtic rejecting an offer for the player to go on loan as Torino assessed his fitness.
