The Sun has claimed that Celtic are ready to make a move to sign Fraser Forster on loan from Southampton.

The one-time Celtic keeper has been out of favour with the Saints for 18 months with little chance of seeing first team action ahead of Alex McCarthy and Angus Gunn.

Earlier tonight The Sun claimed that Scott Bain was facing two months out of action with a hand injury but the length of that lay off has been disputed by the Evening Times.

Neil Lennon twice took Forster on loan from Newcastle before he joined Celtic on a permanent deal and would seem  to be the obvious choice to compete with Craig Gordon for a first team place.

The Sun reports:

CELTIC will target Fraser Forster for an emotional return to Paradise after losing crocked Scott Bain. SunSport understands Neil Lennon, who is also keen on Bournemouth’s Jordon Ibe, will inquire about a reunion with ex-Hoops No1 Forster who is out of favour at Southampton.

Since Lennon was confirmed as Celtic manager there has been speculation over Gary Hooper, Joe Ledley, Adam Matthews and Victor Wanyama returning to the club.

With the English transfer window closed Forster’s only cance of top team football lies outside of England but with a lucrative contract running until 2021 he may opt to stay put- assuming that there is an offer to return to Celtic.
