With the calendar page turning over to August transfer reporting is becoming increasingly desperate.

The EPL deadline closes in one week’s time with The Scotsman claiming that Celtic are battling it out with Spurs for Charlie Allen.

With Luca Connell three years older and still to make the bench for Celtic in a competitive match it’s safe to say that Allen, if he is signed, is some way away from making his Celtic debut.

Celtic are hoping to beat Tottenham Hotspur in the race for highly-rated Linfield midfielder Charlie Allen. The Hoops are understood to have offered the 15-year-old the chance to come and train at Lennoxtown ahead of making an offer.

Spurs were believed to have stolen a march on their rivals by offering Allen a trial – Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, Leeds and Leicester were all monitoring the teenager’s progress.

Celtic currently have a major issue developing young players with no playing platform available between u-18 and the first team.

Last season’s 17 match Reserve League proved to be virtually pointless with players left kicking their heels between matches or being sent on loan to places such as Stranraer, Forfar and East Fife.

There are always players that will buck the trend but right now Karamoko Dembele, Armstrong Oko-Flex, Stephen Welsh, Robbie Deas, Jack Aitchison and Daniel Church are desperately looking for some level of football with Connel and Ewan Henderson in similar situations.
