Isaac Brizuela has claimed that he was a summer transfer target for Celtic.

The 29-year-old has been with Chivas Guadalajara since 2014 and has picked up 13 full international caps for Mexico.

Celtic were certainly interested in signing an additional winger with Mo Elyounoussi coming in from Southampton on a season long loan.

Mexican players have performed disastrously in Scotland with Efrain Juarez disappearing quickly after a strong start at Celtic in 2010 while Edurdo Herrera and Carlos Pena made no impact at Ibrox other than draining the bank balance.

Picking up on news from Mexico The Sun reported:

I heard about the rumours but I didn’t want to think about them too much. I didn’t want to distract myself. In the end, I don’t know if they spoke to a director.

When I was with Toluca, they made an approach but the club did not let me go because Celtic did not want to pay what Toluca asked.

Being here in Chivas I’m not sure if a scout came over or has come over recently but I won’t lose hope. I know I am getting older but I won’t give up hope that such a moment will come.

At the age of 29 it would seem unlikely that Brizuela is going to get a big money move to Europe.

Throughout the transfer window agents approach clubs and other agents about the availability of players with clubs discussing half a dozen targets to find out which player is the best fit for their plans and budget.

Celtic targets tend to be in their early or mid twenties with almost all having the potential to be sold on for a profit which seems unlikely in a 29-year-old who has never played outside of Mexico.
