Jeremie Frimpong has become Celtic’s second Deadline Day signing following the deal to sign Greg Taylor from Kilmarnock.

The 18-year-old Dutch youth internationalist spent two seasons with Manchester City but rather than move out on loan deals has taken the option to join Celtic on a permanent basis.

Celtic scout the youth and development market in England extensively with Armstrong Oko-Flex joining the club a year ago with Jonathan Afolabi joining the hoops last month.

Frimpong will train with Neil Lennon’s first team as his ability is assessed with a view to integrating him into top team football.

Celtic are still in talks to sign Lee O’Connor from Manchester United with Jack Aitchison (Forest Green Rovers) and Ewan Henderson (Ross County) both moving out on season long loans.

With no Reserve League football on offer Celtic have a problem giving players game time below first team level but the signing of Frimpong and interest in O’Connor suggests that they have definite plans to develop players into first team material.
