Celtic look like being backed by a massive travelling support when they take on Lazio on November 7.

When the draw was made for the group stage of the Europa League the match in Rome was the one that caught the imagination. Celtic fans have been regular visitors to Barcelona, Milan and Trondheim over the last 20 years but the hoops haven’t played in the Italian capital since the early fifties.

Around 10,000 fans traveled to Munich in 2017 where it was possible to buy tickets directly from the Bayern website.

Tickets won’t be a problem for the match against Lazio as The Sun revealed in an article about UEFA closing a section of their stadium for next week’s match against Rennes following racist actions last season.

However, it’s unlikely to pose much of a setback for the Italian giants, who are used to playing in their empty home stadium in Europe. Last season, in their four Europa League game, Lazio averaged just 16,155 as attendances in their 70,634-capacity stadium. And Celtic look set to receive a bumper allocation when the sides meet in November.

Matches against Rennes, Celtic and Cluj are unlikely to excite the Lazio support who watched their side beat Parma 2-0 yesterday, lifting them into fifth place in Serie A with seven points from four matches.
