Reality at Ibrox lasted less than 48 hours.

Sunday’s derby day lesson from Celtic should have calmed the early season hysteria but after barely a day the noise, warning and title pledges are re-emerging.

Borna Barisic watched the match from the bench on Sunday as Steven Gerrard was handed a tactical lesson and his players reminded of their inferiority to the Treble Treble winners.

Trophies and medals aren’t handed out during the summer or on the back of sound-bites with Barisic telling the Croatian media that Sunday’s defeat actually meant very little.

The Daily Record reports:

The Celtic defeat was only one game – it doesn’t change anything. We had started the season really well. We got through all our matches in Europe and were thrilled to get to the group stage. We also won all our matches in the league. We were playing really well, everyone was happy, but then we lost to Celtic.

But no one can say they outplayed us in the game. They got the second goal when we were attacking to try and get an equaliser. This year we are very much going for the title.

The narrative now emerging is that Sunday’s result was all down to a slip up from Steven Gerrard, mainly over-estimating the threat from Celtic.

Last season’s Ibrox derby day results have now been put in context with Celtic returning from a midweek European trip to silence all but 800 fans in the frenzied derby atmosphere.

The bizarre claim that Gerrard had the measure of Neil Lennon has been cruelly exposed with the reality of Celtic’s win and it’s implications too painful to consider across the city.
