John Hartson has questioned whether Celtic moving for Victor Wanyama would be a good move.

The Wanyama of 2012/13 would be the first name on Neil Lennon’s team-sheet but at the current moment the hoops boss has a job on his hands keeping Olivier Ntcham and Tom Rogic in the loop.

Callum McGregor, Scott Brown and Ryan Christie are the clear first picks but the skipper won’t last forever while there are regular rumours tat Brendan Rodgers would love to take McGregor to Leicester.

Moving to Spurs hasn’t kicked Wanyama’s game on in the same way as Virgil van Dijk’s move to Liverpool but after lengthy negotiations a summer move to Brugge fell through.

Speaking to Football Fancast Hartson said:

I think the crowd would like to see him go back. He’s a quality player and Celtic could do with quality players. He’s a very good midfielder but Celtic have got good midfield players. They’ve got a collection at their disposal and they can only play four. Does it upset the balance if you bring in Wanyama all of a sudden?

There’s a few clubs who will be interested in Wanyama. He’s big, he’s solid, he’s reliable, he’s a physical presence in both boxes. He’s a very, very good player and that’s why he’s playing for one of the top four clubs.

Wanyama is under contract until June 2021 with speculation likely in January that he could be on the move.

Lennon signed Wanyama for Celtic as a 20-year-old from Belgian side Beershot for £1m in 2011, two years later he joined Southampton for £13m.
