Celtic’s summer recruitment drive at Development Team level will go on show against Morton today in the Reserve Cup, kick off 2pm.

Last week Tommy McIntyre’s squad played against Hibs in a friendly at Lennoxtown but at Cappielow today there will be a competitive edge as Lee O’Connor, Jeremie Frimpong and Jonathan Afolabi get the chance to impress.

Although Celtic have opted out of the 12 team SPFL Reserve League they opened the Reserve Cup with a 4-2 win away to Dundee with further group matches with Dunfermline next month and Motherwell on December 2.

Last season O’Connor, Frimpong and Afolabi were playing in the EPL u-23 league before deciding that moving to Celtic was the best option for their careers.

Today’s side is also likely to involve summer signings Liam Burt and Luca Connell with a whole new look to this season’s Reserve side. Unlike Brendan Rodgers, Neil Lennon is a regular at Reserve matches.

In their opening Reserve Cup match Morton lost at home to Motherwell, in the Reserve League, which is topped by Hearts, Morton have taken three points from their first three matches.
