Tom Rogic is close to a return to action.

The midfielder missed Celtic’s pre-season trip to Austria and Switzerland and has yet to play any competitive football this season.

It’s unclear the nature of the injury that has ruled him out but in January he returned from the Asian Cup with a knee injury that required surgery that ruled him out of action until April.

Although he scored in the Scottish Cup semi-final win over Aberdeen he seemed short of full capacity as Celtic clinched the Treble Treble.

I’m hoping to get Tom Rogic back in contention for the squad for the Hamilton game,” Lennon told The Sun. “He looks brilliant. He’s in great condition, he’s lost weight and he’s training well.”

Celtic play at Hamilton on September 14 with that match quickly followed  by the Europa League opener away to Rennes.

With Ryan Christie in top form Rogic faces a real battle to get back into Lennon’s side but having the Australian and Olivier Ntcham as back up to Christie, Callum McGregor and Scott Brown gives the Celtc boss plenty of options going into a crucial phase of the season.
