Nir Bitton has made his return to action after being picking up a hamstring injury during Celtic’s 2-0 derby day success at the start of the September.

The Israeli internationalist turned in an outstanding display alongside Cristopher Jullien as a new look Celtic defence silenced their critics.

Bitton’s injury was the only downside of the day but on Thursday night he was in the Israeli side that lost 3-1 to Austria after taking the lead through Eran Zahavi.

Under Brendan Rodgers Bitton was converted into a central defender with Celtic short in that position due to Jozo Simunovic’s knee problem.

The 27-year-old was an unused substitute in Celtic’s matches against Cluj and Livingston but will return to Lennoxtown after Tuesday’s match at home to Latvia with some competitive action to his name.

Fellow Celt Hatem Abd Elhamed played the full 90 minutes against Austria.
