With one post on Instagram Hatem Abd Elhamed has knocked on the head scare stories over his ‘mystery virus’.

The Celtic defender played for 90 minutes against Austria on Thursday but missed a few days of training with Israel boss Andreas Herzog explaining that he had been struck by a virus.

Elhamed has settled instantly into life at Celtic with his ability and versatility highlighted during the 2-0 Glasgow derby success last month when he effortlessly switched from right-back to central defence.

The former Hapoel Be’er Sheva defender should be in action again tonight when Israel host Latvia in a European Championship qualifier.

Losing in Austria dealt a serious blow to their qualification hopes but they could claim a play-off slow which may see them face Scotland again despite losing out to Alex McLeish’s side in last season’s Nations League fixtures.

It will be Thursday before Neil Lennon gets his first team squad back into training with Kris Ajer, Mo Elyounoussi, Nir Bitton and Odsonne Edouard likely to be in action tonight.
