For more than a decade Willie Miller led Aberdeen into some titanic battles with Celtic.

Alongside Alex McLeish, Doug Rougivie, Neale Cooper and Neil Simpson they certainly made their presence known whether the venue was Hampden, Pittodrie or Celtic Park.

Under Alex Ferguson the clashes between the two sides were often brutal with the battle taking priority before a game of football could break out as an afterthought.

Yesterday Miller was on Radio Scotland duty at Pittodrie as Celtic tore through the Dons with the 4-0 scoreline flattering to the homeside.

Despite his status at Aberdeen Miller doesn’t follow the party line with sugar coated soundbites, yesterday his analysis was as brutal as some of the clashes he was involved in as a player.

Celtic are not too bothered anymore. They’re almost playing at walking pace. Aberdeen are just as passive in the second half, but Celtic are not taking advantage of it.

The Aberdeen performance has been poor, it’s been dreadful. It hasn’t given the fans any hope. The least you expect is a battling performance, they haven’t given that today.

Derek McInnes now has the task of trying to raise the same group of players for Wednesday’s away day at Hamilton Accies.

Ten matches into the season Aberdeen are sitting in fifth place, 10 points behind leaders Celtic.
