Neil Lennon has explained that Christopher Jullien was substituted at Aberdeen because he was suffering from a virus.

The Frenchman was replaced at half-time by Nir Bitton with Celtic leading 4-0 from a devastating first 45 minutes.

Jullien was rock solid at the back alongside Kris Ajer but after the match his manager revealed that the former Toulouse man was playing under the weather.

At 22 minutes 20 seconds in this BBC podcast Lennon revealed:

He has got a virus, it’s been going around, I’ve had it myself for a couple of weeks. We hope that he will be ok in a couple of days, we’ve got St Mirren on Wednesday night and we’ll see how he is.

Bitton stepped in with no disruption to Celtic’s play as the hoops cruised to victory with barely a threat made on Fraser Forster’s goal.

Hatem Abd Elhamed was among the substitutes after feeling a tightness in his hamstring late in the win over Lazio that opened the door for Jeremie Frimpong to start against Aberdeen.

Lennon had no fresh injuries to report after yesterday’s win ahead of a hectic week that sees his side in action against St Mirren on Wednesday then Hibs at Hampden on Saturday.
