Brendan Rodgers has admitted that the timing of his departure from Celtic wasn’t ideal but that he left the club in a good place.

Slipping out the back door two days before facing Hearts followed by a cup tie away to Hibs with his coaching staff in the back-seat down the M74 won’t be forgiven by most Celtic fans.

While e clearly had understandable issues with Peter Lawwell the nature of his exit virtually wiped out the legacy of a man that led Celtic to seven successive trophies and an Invincible Treble.

Claims that he was working in his dream job were trashed when he was introduced as Leicester manager with most questions still unanswered about the circumstances of his return to England.

Interviewed by Jamie Carragher in The Telegraph Rodgers said:

I lived my dream managing Celtic, a club I supported. That journey will always be with me. But every manager and players will have goals and objectives they want to achieve in their career.

Your situation can change very quickly. We won seven trophies on the spin and if I felt I could not take Celtic further it had to be the right club and I thought Leicester was too good an opportunity to turn down. The timing was not ideal but I left the team in a good place.

Despite losing earlier in the season at Tynecastle and Easter Road caretaker boss Neil Lennon led Celtic to victories in his first two matches in charge before going on to win the SPFL title and the Scottish Cup.
