Back in November 2011 Joe Ledley was going through the usual footballing turmoil, worrying about your form and results at club and international level.

Celtic’s form had picked up on the back of that match at Rugby Park where a 3-0 half-time deficit was turned around as Neil Lennon considered handing in his resignation.

For his manager at international level something very different was happening.

To this day those close to Speed are still in the dark over what happened overnight that Saturday. Everything in his life seemed settled and stable with the success of the Welsh national side giving the former Leeds and Newcastle an exciting new opening in management.

Less that five years after the death of their manager Wales were playing in the semi-finals of the European Championships with many of the players having played under Speed.

Another European Championships beckons next summer with the memory of Speed appearing to inspire a new generation of Welsh players.
