Neil Lennon is looking to strengthen his side in January but hasn’t yet got down to the fine details of identifying target positions.

Nicky Hammond has been appointed as Head of Football Operations with a clear responsibility to identify realistic transfer targets when the window opens in January.

Celtic are well stocked for full-backs, wingers and central midfielders while the arrival of Fraser Forster gave Lennon three keepers to select from.

Bringing in a striker would be the priority of most fans with Lennon touching on the January transfer window when he was asked to give his thoughts on Celtic’s prospects when the Europa League switches to knock out in the new year.

“It’s a long way off in February to gauge where we are,” he said. “We’ll have the January window when hopefully we can do a bit of business and strengthen on what we have already. At the minute we’re in a good place; the form, the consistency, the level of performance, the intensity, the pace and power of the team.”

Asked about specific targets he added: “It’s too early to say, I haven’t had the time but Nick (Halmond) has got the recruitment department up and running, he’s got a few bits and pieces to do but they are all out there looking for players as we speak.

“It’s not just about going deep into the Europa but about winning the league and the other competitions that we’re in. If we can find that player to strengthen what we do and it’s within our budget we’ll endeavour to do that.”
