Sky Sports News are claiming that Hibs are expected to make an official approach to Celtic for John Kennedy.

Since Neil Lennon spoke out after Sunday’s win over Hibs about retaining his assistant manager there has been a focus on the future of the former Celtic centre half who was forced to retire through injury in 2008.

Hibs sacked Paul Heckingbottom last Monday but Saturday’s 4-1 win away to St Johnstone under caretaker boss Eddie May has bought the club some time.

Moving from Celtic to Hibs would seem a dangerous career move with few managers surviving more than 18 months at the Edinburgh side but in the absence of any ‘hands off’ statement from Celtic the speculation is continuing to surface.

Sky Sports states:

Hibernian are expected to make an official approach to Celtic for permission to speak to assistant manager John Kennedy about their managerial vacancy, Sky Sports News understands.

At one stage the phrase ‘Sky Sports News understands’ carried a lot of weight with the broadcaster having extensive contacts throughout the game.

That authority has been weakened in recent years with the claim in July that Alfredo Morelos had personally turned down a £30m contract to go to China without the consultation of his club seriously lacking credibility.

With no match until next Saturday it’s unlikely that there will be any comment from Celtic about Hibs’ interest in Kennedy.

There has been various fall-outs between the two boardrooms in recent times with the John McGinn saga on 2018 suggesting that any boardroom negotiations will be frosty.

NB Radio Scotland are running with the ‘Hibs want Kennedy’ line as the lead item in their sports bulletins.
