Neil Lennon has admitted that he was screaming at the telly when he saw James Forrest scythed down during Scotland’s 3-1 win over Kazakhstan.

Three minutes before the interval with Scotland trailing 1-0 the winger was brutally chopped down by Aybol Abiken with a team-mate applying a finishing touch as Forrest crashed to the deck.

As the Scotland winger received treatment on the touchline a yellow card was shown to Abiken as anxious Celtic fans pondered the extent of Forrest’s injury watching slow motion re-runs of the incident, they weren’t alone in their concern about Forrest.

I was screaming at the telly, I was upstairs, there was a game out there (Stenhousemuir friendly), it was a real heart in mouth moment. It was a shocking challenge, it was a red card for me, thankfully he (Forrest) came through the game fine. He’s fit and available, it’s just one of those awful moments. You think it could be ligament damage or a real sore one but thankfully he is strong enough and avoided serious injury.

After treatment Forrest was able to return to the action but it seemed likely that he would be substituted at half-time.

There were no replacements at the break from Steve Clarke, the Scotland boss brought on three substitutes during the second half but Forrest completed the second half and reported back unscathed to Lennoxtown on Wednesday morning.
